[Financial News] Hyundai Motor and Kia sold 89,890 units in the European market last month, a 1.8% decrease compared to the same month last year.
According to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) on the 27th, Hyundai sold 45,227 units in Europe last month, a 3.3% decrease compared to the previous year. During the same period, Kia also recorded sales of 44,663 units, a decrease of 0.2%.
As a result, Hyundai and Kia's combined market share in Europe was 8.3%, down 0.2%p (points) compared to the previous year. Specifically, Hyundai's share decreased by 0.1%p to 4.2%, while Kia maintained the same level as last year at 4.1%.
From January to April this year, Hyundai and Kia recorded a total sales volume of 357,201 units, a 3.4% decrease compared to the previous year. Hyundai's sales decreased by 4.2% to 174,106 units, while Kia's sales decreased by 2.6% to 183,095 units.
Last month, Hyundai's main model sold in the European market was the Tucson, with sales of 9,135 units. Among them, the hybrid (HEV) model was the most sold with 4,164 units, and the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model also sold 1,890 units. The Kona sold 6,360 units, with the hybrid model accounting for the largest sales share at 2,900 units. The compact car i10 also sold 5,353 units.
For Kia, the Sportage was the best-selling model last month with 12,634 units, followed by the compact hatchback Ceed with 8,795 units, and the EV3 with 5,551 units.
Looking at the sales of eco-friendly cars (including hybrids), Hyundai sold 6,054 units of the Tucson, 5,071 units of the Kona, and 2,446 units of the Casper Electric. The Ioniq 5 also recorded sales of 1,387 units. For Kia, in addition to the EV3, 4,189 units of the Niro and 1,441 units of the EV6 were sold in the European market.
