【Financial News Gwangju=Hwang Taejong Reporter】Gwangju Metropolitan City and 17 universities in the Gwangju area have joined hands for the successful promotion of the 'Regional Innovation-Centered University Support System (RISE) Project'.
Gwangju City announced that it held a RISE project agreement ceremony with 17 regional universities in the city hall's medium conference room on the 27th.
The agreement on this day was prepared as a place for Gwangju City and the 17 regional universities selected as performing universities through the '2025 Gwangju RISE Project' competition to share the vision of regional innovation and talent development and to pledge mutual cooperation for successful project promotion.
According to the agreement, Gwangju City and the 17 regional universities will closely cooperate in △establishing a leading model for RISE and successfully performing the project △creating and managing results △discovering and spreading best practices.
The 'Gwangju RISE Project' envisions 'Region-University Together UP, Education Innovation Opportunity City Gwangju', creating an innovation ecosystem encompassing education, industry, culture, welfare, and settlement to nurture region-tailored talents and create regional community value.
Previously, Gwangju City held a competition from February to April for regional universities to perform four major projects: △Talent Skill UP △Company Value UP △Community Grow UP △University Inno UP. 17 regional universities participated in these projects, performing a total of 62 tasks. The total project budget is 74.91 billion KRW.
Following the agreement ceremony on this day, Gwangju City held the '3rd RISE Committee of 2025' to deliberate and decide on four agendas: RISE project budget execution guidelines, project agreement period application, dedicated agency project participation plan, and unit task performance indicator change plan.
In addition, regarding the additional competition for cultural and tourism city activation tasks decided at the '2nd RISE Committee', it plans to select performing universities with three consortiums and a scale of 2.4 billion KRW through a project announcement in May.
Gwangju Mayor Kang Gijeong said, "The 'Gwangju RISE Project' is a core project for completing the talent development ladder, such as nurturing 1,000 masters and doctors in future industries like artificial intelligence and future cars, and fostering 35,000 startup companies," and "As the joint goal of administration and universities is to ensure that young people can achieve their dreams without leaving Gwangju by concentrating infrastructure, companies, and talents, please do your best."
