According to Lotte Property & Development on the 27th, Lotte Holdings, Lotte Property & Development, and Lotte World, along with Songpa District Office, Jens, and Green Future, have signed a business agreement for the '2025 Seokchon Lake Water Quality Improvement'. Under the agreement, Lotte will support the creation of a fund for the water quality improvement project and on-site operations, while Songpa District Office will support administrative tasks. Green Future will perform water quality management and inspection, and Jens will carry out the water quality improvement work. A purification vessel will operate in Seokchon Lake to conduct purification work twice a week, using photocatalysts that cause chemical reactions through light to reduce underwater pollutants.
Lotte has been carrying out the Seokchon Lake water quality improvement project since 2021 as part of its ESG management to provide citizens with a clean urban oasis.
As a result, Seokchon Lake, which was only visible up to a depth of 0.6 meters in 2021, is now clear enough to be visible up to more than 2 meters, and last year it received a first-grade rating in most categories of water quality standards.
Since 2022, Lotte Property & Development has been hosting the 'Lotte Aquathlon' every summer in the now-clear Seokchon Lake. The Lotte Aquathlon is an ironman biathlon where participants swim two laps around Seokchon Lake and then climb the stairs from the 1st to the 123rd floor of Lotte World Tower. Over 2,000 people have participated over three years, and it has become known among triathletes as the 'Seokchon Lake with good water'. The '2025 Lotte Aquathlon' is also planned for July 6th.
Jang Jae-hoon, CEO of Lotte Property & Development, said, "To improve and maintain the water quality of Seokchon Lake, continuous effort is needed rather than a one-time effort," and added, "Lotte will continue to practice ESG management."
