[Financial News] The police conducted a campaign targeting drivers and passengers of commercial vehicles like taxis to prevent traffic accident damage caused by not wearing rear seat belts.
Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that it conducted a campaign across Seoul on the 27th to normalize seat belt wearing.
The police carried out promotional activities at the taxi stand in front of Seoul Station from 2 PM that day with the slogan "Rear Seat Belt Too! Wear It! Safety Too!" They educated on the dangers of not wearing seat belts and incorrect wearing habits on-site and conducted traffic safety education.
Major train stations, subway stations, taxi stands, and places with high boarding rates like taxis and tour buses, as well as logistics centers and taxi transport companies, simultaneously held campaigns. Each police station chief, district offices, related organizations, and traffic cooperation groups participated.
Traffic accidents continue to occur when seat belts are not worn or worn incorrectly. Last year, 20 people died in related traffic accidents, and 5 have died by the end of last month this year.
Many do not wear rear seat belts when taking a taxi, thinking they are using it for a short distance at a slow speed. However, research shows that in a head-on collision at 48 km/h, the likelihood of serious injury is 16 times higher, and the death rate is 9 times higher for those not wearing rear seat belts.
Seat belts must be worn correctly to support the shoulders and pelvis to prevent accidents. If not worn properly, the impact during an accident can cause ejection from the vehicle, threatening life.
A Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency official emphasized, "Regardless of speed or travel distance, the risk of traffic accidents always exists, so rear seat belts are essential," and "There are accidents leading to death from not wearing seat belts in the taxi rear seat. You must always wear a seat belt when sitting in the rear seat."
