Investigation into Cabinet Meeting Just Before Martial Law Gains Momentum
[Financial News] The police have banned former Prime Minister Han Deok-soo and former Minister of Strategy and Finance Choi Sang-mok from leaving the country in connection with the Cabinet meeting held just before the martial law declaration on December 3, under charges of rebellion.
The Special Investigation Team for the December 3 Martial Law of the National Police Agency announced on the 27th through a press release that they took this measure in mid-month.
They were investigated by the police as suspects of rebellion related to their attendance at the Cabinet meeting held just before the martial law declaration the previous day.
The special team, while analyzing the CCTV footage of the main reception room (Cabinet meeting venue) and office corridor from the Presidential Office, which was voluntarily submitted by the security office from 6 PM on December 3 last year until the following month, found discrepancies between their statements to the police and their remarks in the National Assembly, and conducted an investigation. It is reported that the special team questioned them about their remarks and situations during the Cabinet meeting at that time.
The ban on leaving the country for former Minister of Public Administration and Security Lee Sang-min has been extended. Former Minister Lee is suspected of ordering power and water cuts to MBC, Hankyoreh, and Kyunghyang Shinmun during the martial law period. The police had issued a ban on leaving the country for former Minister Lee on December 9 last year.
Following the ban on these individuals, the police are expected to focus on securing additional evidence for the rebellion investigation. As former President Yoon is on trial for rebellion charges, the court may adopt additional evidence ex officio depending on the police's evidence acquisition. The police have stated that they will cooperate as much as possible if the court requests additional evidence.
