[Financial News]  In the United States, a former police chief who was serving a heavy sentence for charges such as murder and rape has escaped from prison, and correctional authorities are tracking his whereabouts.

On the 26th (local time), according to AP News and others, Grant Hardin (56), who was imprisoned at the North Central Unit Prison located in Calico Rock, Arkansas, USA, escaped the previous day.

Hardin was a former police chief of the small town of Gateway, located on the border of Arkansas and Missouri, and had been imprisoned there since 2017.

He was revealed to be the perpetrator of the murder of a 59-year-old city official found shot in the face in a vehicle in Gateway in February 2017, and was sentenced to 30 years in prison for first-degree murder in October of that year.

Later, a DNA match in 2019 revealed that Hardin was also responsible for a 1997 unsolved elementary school teacher rape case, adding an additional 25 years to his sentence.

Hardin, who has a robust physique with a height of 180 cm and a weight of 117 kg, is known to have escaped the prison disguised in an improvised police uniform.

Correctional authorities have determined that the escape of a dangerous criminal with a police background poses a threat to the community and are conducting a search in cooperation with state and federal police.
