【Financial News Jeonju=Kang In Reporter】 The former president and professors of Hanil Jangsin University, who are accused of registering so-called 'ghost students' by mobilizing relatives and others due to difficulties in recruiting new students, have been handed over to the prosecution.

The Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Investigation Unit of the Jeonbuk Police Agency announced on the 27th that they have sent former president A and 12 professors of Hanil Jangsin University to the prosecution without detention on charges of obstruction of business.

A and others are accused of obstructing the work of the Korea University Evaluation Institute by admitting fake students to increase the recruitment rate of new students by mobilizing relatives and others.

The case emerged last October when the university professors' union raised suspicions.

The professors' union claimed that about half of the 43 students admitted through the second additional recruitment for the 2024 academic year did not register for courses or attend classes, raising suspicions of 'ghost students' by the professors in charge.

To receive university institution evaluation certification, one of the criteria is to meet a recruitment rate (average of 95% or more over three years), and the union claimed that the university registered 'ghost students' to meet this requirement.
