[Financial News] An ozone (O3) advisory was issued for the entire Seoul area as of 2 PM today. As the first ozone advisory of the year, children, the elderly, and those with respiratory or cardiovascular diseases are advised to avoid outdoor activities.
Seoul Metropolitan Government's Institute of Health and Environment announced on the 27th that "the hourly maximum concentration, which is the criteria for issuing an ozone advisory, exceeded 0.12 ppm as of 2 PM," and "an ozone advisory is issued for the Seoul area."
Ozone is a secondary pollutant generated by photochemical reactions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the atmosphere with solar energy. High concentrations can irritate the respiratory system and eyes, causing inflammation, and in severe cases, lead to respiratory disorders.
To protect citizens' health, Seoul City operates a comprehensive control room every day, including weekends and holidays, from April 1 to October 31, when ozone levels rise. They monitor ozone concentrations in real-time and prepare for advisory issuance.
When an ozone advisory is issued, notification services are sent to registered citizens, related departments of Seoul City, media, schools, and multi-use facilities via alert messages (or texts). This is to guide the alert situation and citizen action guidelines.
Each district also individually informs government offices, schools, apartments, multi-use facilities, and residents of the ozone advisory measures through alert messages (texts).
Citizens who wish to receive ozone advisory alert services on their mobile phones can apply on the Seoul City Air Quality Information website under 'Air Quality Information Alert Service Application'. Notifications of advisories or warnings, including ozone and (ultra) fine dust, are provided free of charge.
Additionally, the website and mobile platforms provide information on the status of ozone advisory issuance and citizen action guidelines.
