[Financial News] Kim Moon-soo, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, promised on the 27th to immediately appoint a special inspector recommended by the opposition to eradicate corruption in the presidential family, prohibit the first lady's involvement in state affairs, and disclose the living expenses of the presidential residence. This seems to be in response to various allegations concerning Kim Geon-hee, the spouse of former President Yoon Seok-yeol, Kim Jung-sook, the spouse of former President Moon Jae-in, and Kim Hye-kyung, the spouse of Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung.
Candidate Kim issued a statement in the afternoon, saying, "I will prepare and implement fundamental measures to eradicate corruption in the presidential family," and announced this.
Candidate Kim pointed out, "The words that come to mind when thinking of the first lady used to be service and sacrifice that embraced the lives of the people. Yuk Young-soo was like that," adding, "Now, 'expensive clothes, trips to India, bags, necklaces' come to mind. The public's disappointment and anger at such first ladies are enough to make one click their tongue."
He also made remarks targeting Kim Hye-kyung, the spouse of Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung. Candidate Kim said, "Currently, there is mockery and concern in the public, saying 'when the bag goes, the corporate card comes,'" adding, "This is a nationally unfortunate situation. I believe the judicial authorities will quickly reveal the substantive truth that meets the public's expectations."
Candidate Kim promised, "If I receive the choice of the people, I will break the chain of continuous misfortune caused by the misconduct of the president's family and relatives," adding, "During my term, I will never do anything that violates the law or damages the dignity of the nation and the president. I will thoroughly manage and supervise to prevent any seeds of corruption from growing and transparently report the results to the public."
He pledged to immediately appoint a special inspector, a position that has been vacant and virtually abolished since the Moon Jae-in administration. Candidate Kim said, "Former presidents did not appoint one citing parliamentary procedures, but I will appoint a special inspector recommended by the opposition without any conditions immediately upon taking office."
He also announced a ban on the first lady's involvement in state affairs. Candidate Kim said, "I will not forget the principle that the only person elected by the people is the president, and I will ensure that no unelected individuals, such as the president's spouse and family, interfere in state affairs."
Additionally, he promised to disclose the living expenses of the presidential residence. Candidate Kim criticized, "Some presidents have allowed their children to live in the residence, solving their housing expenses with taxpayer money," adding, "This is absurd."
Candidate Kim added, "I will not use a single won of tax money for private purposes outside of official events. I did the same during my time as governor of Gyeonggi Province," and "I will disclose the purpose of the taxes used in the residence to the public."
He emphasized, "I will become a president who does not engage in any improper actions that do not meet the standards of law, principles, and the public's expectations, and only sets an example."
