Pursuing System Improvements for Faster Review and Compensation for Disasters During Public Duties
To strengthen the compensation system for public officials who suffer disasters while dedicated to the nation, such as extinguishing wildfires, apprehending criminals, and epidemic prevention, a government council has been launched and has started its full-scale activities.
The research association launched on this day is the first regular government-level council established to ensure faster and more substantial compensation and respect for disasters (death or injury/illness) occurring during public duties.
According to the Veterans Affairs Department and the Personnel Management Department on the 27th, the 'National Compensation Policy Research Association' was officially launched and the first meeting was held at the Government Sejong Complex.
The meeting, which included participation from the Veterans Affairs Department, Personnel Management Department, Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Employment and Labor, and Public Officials Pension Service, focused on closely linking and activating cooperation among related agencies' policies and systems.
Additionally, the 'Research Association Operation Direction' was shared to promote integrated understanding and communication between the veterans system and disaster compensation, and discussions were held on key tasks such as △innovation in veterans review and registration △establishment of a system for joint use of resources and information among agencies.
Following this, the Ministry of Employment and Labor (Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service) presented a 'Case of Disability Grade Prediction Model Based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology', and discussions were held on ways to enhance the objectivity and consistency of disaster compensation and veterans review.
The Veterans Affairs Department and Personnel Management Department plan to continue sharing policy issues by holding regular quarterly meetings starting with this first meeting. Based on this, they also plan to jointly promote various cooperative projects such as △system improvement △system linkage innovation △education and promotion.
In particular, they plan to actively pursue system improvements that can be felt in the field by frequently visiting policy sites such as the central veterans hospital physical examination center and major disaster compensation application agencies to conduct meetings and discover user-centered practical tasks.
Meanwhile, the research association was launched through the exchange and cooperation between the Veterans Affairs Department and Personnel Management Department as part of a collaborative task through strategic personnel exchange implemented since February this year.
Seungwoo Lee, Director of the Compensation Policy Bureau of the Veterans Affairs Department, said, "This research association is the first step in organically connecting public servant disaster compensation and the veterans system," and added, "Based on cooperation with related agencies, we will practically implement the national responsibility for sacrifice and dedication for the people."
Jeongyeon Kim, Disaster Compensation Policy Officer of the Personnel Management Department, said, "We will continuously enhance the field-centered compensation system so that public servants can perform their duties with confidence even in the risk of disaster."
