[Financial News] As Yoon Sang-hyun, a member of the National Assembly who was at the forefront of the anti-impeachment movement of former President Yoon Seok-yeol with far-right Pastor Jeongwanghun, was appointed as co-chairman of the election committee, signs of internal conflict are emerging within the party.
The strategy to launch a 'negative all-out offensive' to catch up with Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party candidate, at the last minute of the election is raising concerns that it might be openly revealed.
Kim Moon-soo, the People's Power presidential candidate, appointed Yoon Sang-hyun, a five-term senior member of the metropolitan area, as co-chairman of the election committee on the 26th. This has led to evaluations that the People's Power is revealing its 'far-right nature' and opposing opinions that it is forming a 'melting pot election committee'.
Yoon has been cooperating with Pastor Jeongwanghun until recently. Yoon attended the 'National Resistance Gwanghwamun National Assembly' held by the Korea Right Establishment National Movement Headquarters led by Pastor Jeongwanghun on Sejong-daero, Seoul, on the 4th of last month. On stage that day, Yoon bowed his head and apologized, saying, "It is the fault of the People's Power members that they could not protect the president," and "They have degenerated into an ungrateful and immoral group," and said, "The president opened the war of system protection, and you and I fought together but were sacrificed by the black cartel forces."
Yoon also strongly expressed his opposition to impeachment by defining the Democratic Party as a 'rebellious force' at the 'Yoon Seok-yeol President Impeachment Opposition National Assembly' led by Pastor Jeongwanghun at the end of last year.
Internal figures within the People's Power, classified as pro-Han Dong-hoon, have unanimously opposed. Co-chairman Cho Kyung-tae strongly opposed, saying, "If it is not immediately withdrawn, I will stop the election campaign from this moment." Cho, who is also the longest-serving member (six terms) within the party, expressed regret on Facebook that day, saying, "Yoon, a key aide of former President Yoon Seok-yeol, was appointed as co-chairman of the election committee late last night." He argued, "This is tantamount to reappointing the dismissed former President Yoon and is virtually declaring the abandonment of the election." He continued, "I am really curious about the intention of taking such a reckless step at the last minute of the election," and "This is betraying the party members and the People's Power and is considered as not wanting to do the election campaign."
Park Jeong-ha also wrote on Facebook the same day, "Yoon Sang-hyun appointed as co-chairman of the election committee? Going backwards again. It's discouraging," and Han Ji-ah said, "They pour cold water on the desperate effort for victory."
Former representative Han Dong-hoon repeatedly urged Kim Moon-soo in mid-month to make three decisive actions as the minimum conditions for presidential victory: "Severing ties with former President Yoon Seok-yeol and his wife," "Apologizing for the opposition to martial law and impeachment," and "Drawing a line with extreme forces." Candidate Lee Jun-seok also stated, "The more decisive the severance with Yoon Seok-yeol, the better," and clearly expressed the position that Kim Moon-soo should clearly cut ties with former President Yoon.
However, Kwon Seong-dong, the floor leader, who is considered a representative pro-Yoon figure, defended the appointment, saying, "Although there are many lawmakers with different opinions from the leadership or candidate's policies or strategies, it is appropriate to internally digest different opinions for the goal of winning the presidential election."
Kim Moon-soo, the People's Power presidential candidate, is having a conversation with Yoon Sang-hyun before announcing policy pledges at the election camp in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 30th of last month. Newsis
