【Financial News Chuncheon=Kim Ki-seop Reporter】Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 27th that Gangwon University has been re-selected for the 2025 Software (SW) Centric University competition project organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT, securing an additional 11 billion won in national funding over the next six years.
Gangwon University, following its selection in 2018, has succeeded in being re-selected this year, recognizing its continuous capabilities and achievements as a software-centric university.
The Software-Centric University project is a core national software talent development initiative promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation since 2015, aiming to cultivate creative and convergent software talents that meet the demands of new technologies.
With this selection, it is expected to significantly contribute to job creation and regional economic revitalization by fostering AI and software talents linked to the local industry through region-specific practical education based on cooperation between local governments and universities, and promoting stable settlement and employment connections within the region.
Park Kwang-yong, Director of the Gangwon Province Industry Bureau, stated, “With this additional university selection, we will further strengthen cooperation between local governments and Gangwon University, Hallym University, and Halla University, and accelerate the cultivation of practical software talents tailored to the demands of advanced industries within the province.”
