[Financial News] Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, expressed condolences on the 27th for the passing of Charles Rangel, a Korean War veteran and a symbolic figure of the Korea-US alliance, saying, "He was a true friend of the Republic of Korea and a partner in peace."
Candidate Lee stated on his Facebook in the morning, "Charles Rangel, a former congressman who was a strong guardian of the Korea-US alliance, has passed away," and expressed "deep sorrow and condolences."
Candidate Lee emphasized, "Former Congressman Rangel was a veteran who directly participated in the Korean War and later worked in the U.S. Congress for 46 years, founding the Korea Caucus and consistently proposing peace resolutions for the Korean Peninsula," adding, "He was a precious partner who shared the pain of Korea's division and dreamed of unification together."
He continued, "The prosperity and peace we enjoy today were made possible by the dedication and friendship of such people," and stated, "The Korea-US alliance has now established itself as a true partnership that shares values and visions beyond mere cooperation."
Candidate Lee mentioned that during his lifetime, former Congressman Rangel said, "Korea will always have a place in my heart," and added, "His sincere friendship and dedication will be a beacon lighting the path for the future of Korea and the United States."
