Police, Seomin Committee Complainant Investigation
[Financial News] The police summoned a representative from the Seomin People's Livelihood Countermeasure Committee (Seomin Committee), a civic group that accused Democratic Party lawmakers of sedition, for a complainant investigation.
Seoul Yeongdeungpo Police Station announced that they would summon a representative from the Seomin Committee as a complainant for investigation starting at 9:30 a.m. on the 27th.
Kim Sunhwan, Secretary-General of the Seomin Committee, held a press conference before the investigation, stating, "The Democratic Party's actions against the judiciary are a serious infringement on the rule of law and shake the foundation of the country," and argued, "It is absurd to say that the decisions made by the Supreme Court justices are wrong, as if power is the priority."
He added, "It was a democratically decided remand with 12 out of 13 justices agreeing, and discussing this in the legislative body to question the judiciary is tantamount to abolishing the judiciary."
Previously, the Seomin Committee accused 75 people, including the Democratic Party's rookie lawmakers' group 'The Mincho' and Park Chandae, the floor leader, of sedition and obstruction of official duties to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on the 7th. The Seomin Committee claimed in the complaint that "Park and others used inappropriate expressions such as 'judicial coup' regarding the Supreme Court's remand decision on candidate Lee's violation of the Public Official Election Act."
The Seomin Committee also stated, "The act of politically denying the Supreme Court's legitimate ruling and systematically pressuring the judiciary seriously undermines the constitutional order and the separation of powers," and accused the Democratic Party lawmakers.
