[Financial News] Hanwha Ocean announced on the 27th that it will unveil for the first time a futuristic destroyer and a next-generation frigate with enhanced ballistic missile interception capabilities at the '2025 International Maritime Defense Industry Exhibition (MADEX 2025)'.
The futuristic destroyer incorporates future technologies such as electric propulsion systems, integrated mast, advanced hull design, integrated network, smart bridge, and manpower-reducing smart warship. The unmanned-manned hybrid combat system (Navy Sea GHOST) strategic asset for implementing the Navy's 'Smart Navy' will carry and control various manned and unmanned forces to conduct maritime operations.
In the submarine sector, various models by hull type, including 3000-ton and 2000-ton classes and futuristic submarines, will be exhibited targeting both domestic and overseas markets. The 3600-ton class submarine, which is attracting interest from countries like Poland and Canada, boasts the world's first simultaneous installation of an Air-Independent Propulsion (AIP) system and lithium-ion batteries, offering the best underwater endurance among existing diesel submarines.
The futuristic submarine is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including a stealthy angular shape to minimize acoustic tracking, unmanned system operation using horizontal launch tubes, and a rim-driven propulsion system aimed at noiselessness. It is significant in that it sets the standard for the highest specification of undetectable silent submarines in the global submarine market. Hanwha Ocean plans to pursue customized design and construction according to the purchasing country's requirements based on these advanced submarines.
Hanwha Ocean has completed the establishment of the MRO comprehensive management system (TOMMS∙Total Operation & Maintenance Management System) to enhance competitiveness in the future. This program is a customer-tailored solution for total life cycle management of warships, aiming to further increase customer satisfaction in various MRO businesses.
Ilhong Kim, Senior Vice President of Hanwha Ocean's Special Ship Design Division, said, “This exhibition is composed of future-oriented warships with cutting-edge future technologies applied, rather than exhibiting previously developed warships. We plan to reflect the opinions of the Navy and various experts on the applied technologies in the development of new warships in the future,” adding, “We will continue to maintain the competitiveness of a prestigious shipbuilding company with total capabilities encompassing export warship design and construction technology as well as MRO.”
The warships introduced by Hanwha Ocean at this MADEX 2025 include a total of 17 types, including 10 unmanned warships, 4 surface ships, and 3 submarines. They are composed of exhibition models and digital mock-ups.
