Ministry of Science and ICT, Open Source Contribution Academy Program Participation Recruitment

[Financial News]  The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 27th that it is recruiting about 300 students and developers (mentees) to participate in the 2025 'Open Source Contribution Academy' participatory program until June 22.
Open source contribution encompasses all activities contributing to open source projects, consisting of a total of 15 projects. It supports prospective and beginner developers to participate in open source projects needed in the actual industry, contributing to the activation of the open source ecosystem that promotes AI technology innovation, and to grow as contributors.
Anyone who is willing to contribute to the open source ecosystem and has basic capabilities in open source development and tool utilization can apply, and they can apply for suitable open source projects considering their level, interest field, and technology.
This year, there are many AI-related projects such as Hugging Face OSS and Pyodide, providing growth opportunities for (prospective) developers who wish to understand and gain experience in AI open source projects.
Selected students and developers as mentees can receive one-on-one training from project lead-level developers, and each project team will receive support for project activities such as development infrastructure needed for group activities. In addition, outstanding participants will be awarded the Minister of Science and ICT Award and prizes through project activity evaluations.
Hwang Gyu-cheol, Software Policy Officer of the Ministry of Science and ICT, said, “The importance of open source is being highlighted in the development of AI, etc., and open source contribution experience is being evaluated as an essential capability for AI and SW developers,” adding, “We expect that domestic prospective and beginner developers will enhance their skills and accumulate collaboration experience through this program to grow into global talents.”
