Departure from Tokyo, Japan, Arrival in Sokcho, then Stopover in Busan
This arrival is part of a 16-night, 17-day Asian journey, departing from Tokyo, Japan, passing through Shimizu, Kobe, Hiroshima, and arriving in Sokcho, then heading to Osaka via Pohang and Busan.
To commemorate this first arrival, Gangwon Province will hold a welcome event on the cruise ship from 10 AM to 11 AM on the 29th.
About 20 key figures, including Sohn Changhwan, head of the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Global Headquarters, and the mayor of Sokcho, will attend the event to present commemorative plaques and bouquets and tour the cruise's interior facilities.
The province plans to use this arrival as an opportunity to inject new vitality into the domestic cruise tourism market and establish Sokcho as a world-renowned luxury cruise tourism destination.
'Scenic Eclipse II' is the world's most luxurious cruise ship built in 2023, equipped with top-notch facilities and polar exploration capabilities, earning it the nickname 'Luxury Hotel on the Sea.'
The ship measures 17,592 tons, with a length of 168 meters, and can accommodate 228 passengers and 176 crew members.
It is particularly noted for its 'Polar Class 6' icebreaking capabilities, allowing exploration of icy regions around the Antarctic and Arctic, and is equipped with two helicopters, a six-passenger submersible capable of diving to 200 meters, four underwater scooters, and Zodiac boats for polar exploration, making it a 'stage of adventure' beyond mere cruise travel.
Meanwhile, the province plans to recruit a 'Provincial Cruise Experience Group' from June to create a cruise boom within the province, operating an experience voyage in September.
Sohn Changhwan, head of the Gangwon Province Global Headquarters, said, “The first arrival of the world’s most luxurious cruise at Sokcho Port will be a new starting point for the East Coast cruise industry,” adding, “We will continue to attract various cruises to revitalize the local economy and develop the East Coast, including Sokcho, into a world-class marine tourism hub.”
