[Financial News] Incheon International Airport Corporation announced that it will hold the 'Incheon Airport SME Exclusive Joint Logistics Center Construction Project Groundbreaking Ceremony' with the Small and Medium Venture Business Promotion Corporation on the 27th at the Incheon Airport 2nd Airport Logistics Complex. The logistics center is designed to be 4 stories above ground with a total floor area of 26,000㎡ and is expected to be completed around December 2026.
About 100 key officials, including Lee Hak-jae, President of Incheon International Airport Corporation, Kang Seok-jin, Chairman of the Small and Medium Venture Business Promotion Corporation, Kim Jong-ho, Head of Incheon Airport Customs, and Chu Moon-gap, Head of the Small and Medium Business Central Association, are expected to attend the event to commemorate the successful groundbreaking of the SME-exclusive logistics center construction project.
The logistics center being constructed this time is developed to address logistics-related difficulties of domestic SMEs, startups, and e-commerce companies, which have abundant growth potential but relatively lack financial capacity.
Most SMEs face difficulties in securing their own logistics facilities, suffering from high logistics costs and complex distribution networks, resulting in lower logistics competitiveness compared to large shippers. Once this logistics center is completed, it is expected to help strengthen logistics competitiveness by enabling SMEs to secure delivery costs approximately 10% cheaper than large shippers by consolidating SME volumes.
Additionally, as the logistics center is being established within the Incheon Airport Free Trade Zone, benefits such as tax reductions and simplified customs procedures can be applied according to relevant laws (Act on the Designation and Operation of Free Trade Zones), contributing to the expansion of overseas markets for resident companies.
Lee Hak-jae, President of Incheon International Airport Corporation, said, "I hope this SME-exclusive logistics center will become a strong support for domestic SMEs' overseas expansion," adding, "We plan to continue discovering various cooperative projects to help excellent domestic companies expand overseas based on Incheon Airport's world-class air logistics infrastructure."
Meanwhile, the construction of the logistics center is a follow-up measure to the 'Incheon Airport 2nd Airport Logistics Complex Social Value Business Rights Joint Development Agreement' signed with the Small and Medium Venture Business Promotion Corporation in July 2021 to expand overseas markets for domestic SMEs and enhance Incheon Airport's air logistics competitiveness.
