Hyundai Mobis announced on the 27th that, in collaboration with Jongno Fire Station, over 100 employees and their families voluntarily participated in a volunteer activity to paint above-ground fire hydrants in the area. Above-ground fire hydrants are firefighting facilities installed mainly at the boundary between sidewalks and roads to draw water for fire suppression first.
The fire hydrant painting volunteer activity is a program to practice Hyundai Mobis's core social contribution value of 'safety.' Jongno-gu, where the volunteer activity took place, has been receiving continuous complaints due to difficulties in identifying above-ground fire hydrants caused by illegal parking and illegally dumped trash near traditional markets, raising concerns about difficulties in early fire suppression.
Hyundai Mobis planned this volunteer activity to improve fire prevention awareness among local residents and enhance the visibility and accessibility of fire hydrants. According to the current Road Traffic Act, parking is prohibited within 5 meters of firefighting water facilities like above-ground fire hydrants, and most importantly, the suppression water of fire trucks dispatched during a fire is exhausted within an average of 5 minutes, making the management and prevention of above-ground fire hydrants essential. Hyundai Mobis played the role of safety keeper by painting old hydrants in the city with bright colors and maintaining the surrounding environment through this volunteer activity.
Over the past two years, Hyundai Mobis has improved the visibility of over 600 above-ground fire hydrants in Seoul, including Jongno-gu and Seocho-gu, through fire hydrant painting volunteer activities. They plan to continue this in the first half of this year and expand to the metropolitan area.
