[Financial News] Busan City announced on the 27th that it will prepare emergency transportation measures in response to the city bus union's strike notice on the 28th.
According to the city, since the end of last year, the Busan city bus labor and management have conducted 11 rounds of wage negotiations this year but failed to reach an agreement, leading to a mediation request to the Busan Regional Labor Relations Commission on the 12th. The labor union has warned that if mediation fails on this day, they will go on a general strike.
The city will activate the Emergency Transportation Measures Headquarters in case the labor and management fail to reach an agreement and the strike proceeds.
Emergency transportation measures include deploying chartered buses, increasing city subway and Busan Gimhae Light Rail services, concentrating taxi operations, temporarily lifting the car day system, and bus-only lanes on the roadside.
Chartered buses will mainly operate in areas without city subways and village buses, transporting passengers from temporary stops to nearby subway stations.
Chartered buses will be deployed on 46 temporary routes with 200 buses operating from 6 AM to 9 PM, and the fare will be free.
The city subway and light rail will extend rush hour service by one hour, and on weekdays, the city subway will increase by 50 trips, and the Busan Gimhae Light Rail by 10 trips.
During the strike, taxis will minimize non-operating vehicles to increase passenger transport, and bus stops will be opened as taxi stands.
Temporarily, the car day system and roadside bus-only lanes will also be lifted to encourage the use of private cars.
Additionally, the city plans to request companies, institutions, and schools to adjust commuting times autonomously to disperse public transportation congestion times.
