Juhee Lee, Director of Talent Policy Planning, said, "In the era of digital transformation represented by artificial intelligence (AI) and big data, humanities insights that can lead creative thinking and social science knowledge that can propose solutions to complex social problems are becoming more important," and added, "The Ministry of Education will continue to seek various support measures so that researchers in the humanities and social sciences can conduct creative and innovative research based on a solid research foundation."
First, the Academic Research Professor program, which invests 41.7 billion won, supports the next generation of scholars in the early stages of research to immerse themselves in research and continue academic activities stably. Depending on qualifications and duration, Type A provides up to 40 million won per year for up to 5 years per project, and Type B provides 20 million won per year for 1 year per project. This year, the number of selected projects increased slightly to 392 for Type A and 1293 for Type B, raising the selection rate.
Furthermore, the Translation of Classics Support Project, which increases accessibility to academic achievements through the translation and dissemination of Eastern and Western classics, supports 27 projects with 12 million won per year for 3 years, totaling 3 billion won. Simultaneously, the Publication Support Project, which strengthens researchers' writing capabilities and expands academic achievements, supports 85 projects with 10 million won per year for 3 years, totaling 7 billion won.
The Ministry of Education plans to announce the results of the selection of new projects for the 'Research Encouragement Fund for Master's and Doctoral Students', which begins in September, in August.
