[Financial News] The government has selected 2569 projects for 9 humanities and social science research support programs, investing a total of 66.9 billion won this year. The goal is to strengthen the research capabilities of researchers at various stages of growth, including the next generation of scholars, and to establish a foundation for group research centered on university-affiliated research institutes.
On the 27th, the Ministry of Education and the Korea Research Foundation selected projects that support individual research activities, including 7 programs such as 'Academic Research Professor, New Research, Mid-level Research, Outstanding Scholar, Joint Research, Translation of Classics, and Publication', as well as 'Global Convergence Research Group' and 'Humanities City Support Project'.
Juhee Lee, Director of Talent Policy Planning, said, "In the era of digital transformation represented by artificial intelligence (AI) and big data, humanities insights that can lead creative thinking and social science knowledge that can propose solutions to complex social problems are becoming more important," and added, "The Ministry of Education will continue to seek various support measures so that researchers in the humanities and social sciences can conduct creative and innovative research based on a solid research foundation."
First, the Academic Research Professor program, which invests 41.7 billion won, supports the next generation of scholars in the early stages of research to immerse themselves in research and continue academic activities stably. Depending on qualifications and duration, Type A provides up to 40 million won per year for up to 5 years per project, and Type B provides 20 million won per year for 1 year per project. This year, the number of selected projects increased slightly to 392 for Type A and 1293 for Type B, raising the selection rate.
