【Financial News Incheon=Han Gapsu Reporter】 Incheon City is creating a 3cm-class high-resolution 3D map using drones for the first time in the nation.
Incheon City announced on the 27th that it will actively promote a project to build a 3cm-class high-resolution 3D stereoscopic model using drones.
This project secures shooting data using only drones instead of aircraft, achieving significantly higher resolution compared to existing satellite images or aerial photographs.
In particular, the city has introduced innovative 3D mesh technology (a technology that implements the surfaces of terrain and building exteriors in a 3D grid form to create realistic three-dimensional spatial information) in the public map service field, enabling operation at about one-fifth the cost of existing methods.
The city has been continuously promoting the spatial information data construction project biennially since 2019. As a result, it provides a 3D virtual city service with LOD (Level of Detail) 2.5 level, where even the roof shapes of buildings are precisely expressed.
However, the currently provided service is optimized for administrative purposes such as analysis and simulation, but there is feedback that the expression of building exteriors is insufficient for general citizens to utilize. Therefore, this project will be improved to enhance realism.
The city plans to elevate data quality to the next level through an advanced strategy that implements building exteriors three-dimensionally based on actual shooting images while maintaining the strengths of existing data. This project aims to be completed by November.
The city anticipates that it will be able to provide citizens with the highest level of service that is competitive compared to 3D map services provided by national local governments as well as private services like Google and Naver.
Lee Cheol, Director of Urban Planning Bureau, said, “This project will dramatically improve the service quality of Incheon City's spatial information platform, maximizing administrative efficiency and enhancing the city's competitiveness.”
