[Financial News] LIG Nex1 presents a vision for the future unmanned fleet through the concept model 'Haegum-X'.
LIG Nex1 announced on the 27th that it will participate in the International Maritime Defense Industry Exhibition (MADEX 2025) held at BEXCO, Busan on the 28th, showcasing the concept model 'Haegum-X', which will set the standard for future unmanned surface vehicles.
Haegum-X features a stealth design that minimizes detection range and is equipped with a multifunction radar (MFR) to secure powerful and three-dimensional search capabilities.
It is equipped with LIG Nex1's powerful and proven armaments such as a 20mm remote-controlled weapon system (RCWS), a 2.75-inch guided rocket 'Bigung', a light torpedo 'Cheongsangeo', and attack drones. Utilizing satellites and communication drones, it can be controlled in various ways and perform effective swarm operations. The standardized platform allows for the attachment and detachment of mission-specific equipment, enabling flexible and powerful responses to various operational environments such as anti-ship, anti-submarine, and anti-drone warfare.
For the first time in the Republic of Korea Navy, reconnaissance unmanned surface vehicles and suicide unmanned surface vehicles made with 3D printing will be exhibited side by side, demonstrating a strong commitment to realizing a powerful unmanned fleet.
An LIG Nex1 representative explained about the suicide unmanned surface vehicle made with 3D printing, "We are taking on many challenges for technological innovation, and attempting hull production with 3D printing is one of them," adding, "In the future, utilizing 3D printing, which allows for cost reduction, mass production, and rapid manufacturing, can greatly contribute to strengthening the Navy's unmanned power."
At this exhibition, LIG Nex1 has prepared the largest-scale exhibition hall (280㎡) based on a single company. In particular, a booth embodying the next-generation stealth warship is operated jointly with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. LIG Nex1's 'Future Advanced Maritime Unmanned Solutions' are displayed to support the Republic of Korea Navy's maritime unmanned and manned complex system (Navy Sea GHOST), and K-maritime defense, detection and precision strike (Sensor to Shooter), and maritime mission solutions are introduced to the world. In a separately prepared Marine Corps exhibition area, solutions for amphibious and coastal defense operations are showcased.
LIG Nex1 also introduces Korea's representative K-maritime solutions. The integrated mast for surface ships, combining active electronically scanned array radar (AESA MFR) and electronic warfare (EW) functions, and combat systems integrating sensors and armaments are exhibited.
LIG Nex1 also unveils the ship-to-air guided missile-II and close-in weapon system (CIWS-II), and anti-drone integrated jammer. The ship-to-air guided missile-II is a domestic research and development project to develop a ship-to-air guided missile of the SM-2 class currently operated by the Navy, and once development is completed, it will be mounted on destroyers (KDDX) to intercept aircraft and cruise missiles attacking ships.
CIWS-II is the final defense system ensuring the survivability of ships, equipped with an AESA radar that detects all-around 360 degrees, ensuring the ability to respond to multiple targets such as cruise missiles and fast engagement response time, and enhancing destructive power with a 30mm cannon. In the future, it is being considered to evolve into a system capable of effectively responding to swarm drones by applying forward scatter munitions.
The anti-drone integrated jammer disrupts the navigation devices of unidentified unmanned aerial vehicles to prevent them from approaching ships. These defense systems, along with the already operational anti-ship guided missile defense missile 'Haegung', form a ship-mounted multi-layered air defense system.
An LIG Nex1 representative said, "Through the capabilities showcased at MADEX 2025, we will do our best to support the realization of the Republic of Korea Navy's unmanned and manned complex system 'Navy Sea GHOST' and to elevate the name of maritime powerhouse Korea in the global maritime defense market."
