[Financial News] North Korea's Kumgangsan is expected to be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

According to UNESCO on the 27th, the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), advisory bodies of the World Heritage Committee, have made a recommendation for listing Kumgangsan, which North Korea applied to be listed as a World Heritage site.

Previously, North Korea applied for Kumgangsan to be listed as a World Heritage site in 2021. However, due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) at the time, the evaluation was not conducted, and it is being evaluated this year. North Korea applied for Kumgangsan as a mixed heritage site with both cultural and natural heritage characteristics.

The heritage that receives a recommendation for listing is usually listed as a World Heritage site unless there are any particular changes. The final decision on the listing is expected to be confirmed in July.

If Kumgangsan is listed as a World Heritage site, North Korea will have three World Heritage sites. Previously, the Goguryeo Tombs and the Kaesong Historic Areas were listed as World Heritage sites in 2004 and 2013, respectively.
