[Financial News] A man in his 50s was sentenced to prison for secretly feeding his partner psychotropic drugs to make her faint, reading her mobile phone conversations, and illegally transferring 15 million won.
According to the legal community on the 27th, the Gwangju District Court Criminal Division 12 (Chief Judge Park Jae-seong) sentenced A (53) to four years in prison on the 26th for charges of robbery, injury, violation of the Narcotics Control Act (psychotropic drugs), and violation of the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection (information network intrusion, etc.).
A, on March 15, made his then-partner B take 'Zolpidem', a sleep-inducing drug, causing her to faint, and then used B's fingerprint to unlock her mobile phone. He then illegally transferred 15 million won to his account through a banking app in five transactions and illegally accessed conversations between B and another man.
Earlier, on the 9th of the same month, A overheard B talking to another man and suspected an affair, leading him to plan this crime.
A was found to have committed the crime by making B naturally consume the drug containing Zolpidem, which he was prescribed and taking, along with chocolate.
Afterward, A returned all the cash he had taken from B's account but reportedly did not apologize.
The court stated, "Feeding psychotropic drugs to B, who was in a romantic relationship, to make her faint and secretly accessing her mobile phone using her fingerprint is a serious crime that is difficult to understand with a normal mindset," and pointed out that "it was thoroughly planned in advance."
Furthermore, "he exploited B's unconscious state to embezzle 15 million won from her bank account, immediately transferring and concealing the money to his family or acquaintances' accounts. It is a highly malicious crime with significant culpability," and "considering that he has not made sufficient efforts for mental recovery except for returning the money and has not been forgiven," the sentence was determined.
